1 Competition organisation.

The photographic competition for Moors and Christians 2018 is organised by La Associación de Moros y Cristianos Al Mosaquer de Mojácar (the Association of Moors and Christians of Mojácar – Al Mosaquer) hereafter referred to as the Association.

2 Participants

The competition is International, open to anyone over 14 (under 18 with parental consent) who accept the competition rules and the judges decisions. This includes any changes that the organisers or judges may deem necessary.

By entering the competition you agree to abide by the rules.

Participants may hold any nationality, whether resident or not in Spain, but must be able to provide a valid and legal identification.

3 Entry Period

The period for entering the photographs is from 11th June to 15th September 2018.

4 Subject/Theme

The theme of the competition is the Mojácar Fiesta of Moors and Christians, any photograph of this years Fiesta is valid as long as it is in good taste and shows artistic merit and technical quality.

5 Technical.

The photographs presented must be unedited and not have been entered in any other competition nor published on social networks or used for publicity.

The photographs must be in JPG format with a minimum size of 3500 pixels on the longest side. They must be of good quality in terms of sharpness and resolution, without pixilation, noise or other digital imperfections.

Participants who do not meet these requirements will automatically be disqualified.

Technical quality of the photograph will be taken into account, with allowance for a minimum of re-touching of the image, cropping and other classic techniques. Cloning, filters that deform or stray too far from the original image or from a classic photographic image will be rejected, likewise photomontages, digital collages etc. If the judges are in doubt they will have the right to view the original RAW file. They also have the right to disqualify any suspicious image that does not meet the requirements of the competition.

All images must protect the dignity and privacy of any people photographed in a public space according to the law. Photographs in bad taste or that may offend will be disqualified.

6 Categories.  There are six categories

  • Moors. Where the subject is from a Moorish group.
  • Christians. Where the subject is from a Christian group.
  • Black and White.
  • Open. Any aspect of the Fiesta, unedited and meeting the general rules of the competition
  • Youth. Open to those photographers between 14 and 18 years old. The theme is open but must be of the Fiesta.
  • The Procession rows. Taken during the procession where the subject is the row of Moors or Christians.

7 Number of photographs

Each participant may present a maximum of five photographs per category and are free to follow a unified theme or not. If the whole or part of the group of photographs are awarded a prize they will be treated as one image for the prize.

8 Entry

Participant’s photographs must be sent in together using Wetransfer through almosaquer@gmail.com by the closing date (24.00 on 15th September 2018). In the accompanying email please give the following details: Name and address, nationality, birth date, DNI/N.I.E or Passport number, mobile phone number, email and age along with the name of each photograph. Each photograph file must have the same name as above which must include the DNI/N.I.E/Passport number.

The Association promises to take responsible and legal care of the above data, to meet the legal requirements and to destroy data if requested.

All entries whether winners or not may be used to promote future competitions and will not be ceded to third parties. If used they will carry the photographers name

Selected photographs and all winning ones will become the possession of the Association and become part of their photographic archive, where they may be used for exhibitions and the promotion of Mojácar and its fiestas. Respecting current laws.

9 Competition Winners

The announcement of the winners will be made public at the opening of the exhibition through our webpage or Facebook page, the winners having been notified beforehand. The judges’ decision is final. By participating in the competition you agree to abide by the rules.

The winners will be expected to attend the prize giving, but may send a delegate in their place. Friends and family of the winners are invited to attend.

10 Prizes

1st Prize of Best Photograph. This will be chosen from one of the 6 category winners and will be awarded with an honorific diploma for Best Photograph of Moors and Christians Competition 2018 and will be used for the cover of the 2018 Moors and Christian magazine.

The Youth category winner will receive a camera and diploma.

Each of the other categories will receive a diploma and 150€. These will be subject to the relevant fiscal retentions.

The judges may award a Special Mention title for an outstanding photograph that has not won a prize.

The competition or any of the categories may be declared null and void by the judges.

The same person may not win a prize in more than one category with the exception of Best Photograph.

The prize winners consent to use of their photograph and name for promotion of the prize giving and competition is taken as granted by entering the competition and does not confer any right to remuneration for this.

11 Competition promotion

There may be various exhibitions:

Classic Photographic exhibitions. Those rated highly by the judges along with the category winners may be exhibited in cultural centres or other places that the Association deems suitable in a printed format.

Virtual exhibitions. Either in video or flash format on the Associations web or social networks.

12 Judges Panel and legal reminder

The judges panel will be consist of professional and amateur photographers chosen by the Association Al-Mosaquer.

The wining photographs will become part of the photographic archive and property of the Association Al-Mosaquer.

Participants in the competition guarantee that:

They are the owners of the works which are unpublished.

They own the intellectual rights to the images and possess permission from any minors who appear in them.

Files will not be accepted or published that contain anything that violates the rights of honour, personal or family intimacy. Simply put, nothing that contravenes present laws.

The winners and participants whose photos have been chosen for an exhibition, and who have not indicated to the contrary in their covering email on entering the photographs, relinquish all rights over the entered photographs to the Association. Wherever possible the photographs will bear the name of the photographer.

  • During the parade on Sunday the photographers participating in the competition may not cross the barriers marking the route (especially in the Plaza Nueva). They must not interfere with the procession in any way.
