INTRODUCTION.
The virtual visit to Pulpí's Geode is a virtual trip made to the huge geode (the second largest in theworld) using 3D glasses and a virtual reality program. The virtual trip is in San Juan de los Terreros,
Pulpí (Almería). In the installations of the castle we can see how this geode is inside and have the sensation of been visiting it. The virtual trip of the Geode is situated in the castle because it is the headquarters of the geode. The castle of San Juan de los Terreros is a construction made during the middle of the XVIII century. The first design was made by Thomas de Warluzel d'Hostel. Then, it was modified, improved and finished by Antonio Duce Oliveros in 1764.
The geode of Pulpí is a big geode found in Pilar de Jaravía. It was discovered by the Madrid
mineralogist group in December, 1999.
THE ENVIRONMENT, THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS AND THE SOLUTIONS.
From this castle, located in a hill (Colina de la Amarguera) 150 meters high, we can see most of the beaches, the Isla Negra and the Isla de Terreros.
The geode, due to its large dimensions, the transparency and perfection of the gypsum crystals that are inside it, that can be even 2 meters long, is considered an exceptional piece. In the geode we can contemplate fault surfaces and numerous formations like speleothems of epsomites and calcites or neoformation of minerals like the gypsum beards. Even inside of the mine we can appreciate between the galleries some peculiar celestinas buried in gypsum crystals.
The main impacts of the geode's mining are:
- The destruction of the earth crust to be able to open the roads that are shown in the virtual trip andto get to the huge gypsum crystals that are in our geode.
- The desertification it produces.
This impact couldn't be fixed because the zone where the geode is located the land is not fertile.
- When people came in, the geode deteriorates. That's the reason why the virtual trip was made (as a solution).
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES.
The Geode is very important for Pulpí, because it provides some jobs and attracts a lot of tourist to get to know our beaches and our zone.
Also, related to this you can do some physical activities, such as:
- Make a trekking route until the castle to see the virtual trip.
- Also, as the castle is the interpretation headquarter you can do this activity.
CONCLUSION.
The virtual trip to the geode is very important because thanks to it, there are less visitors in the real life geode so it doesn’t deteriorate. And it looks real and it’s fun to see it.
If you want to go you can take advantage and make some trekking routes and take a walk by the sea to know them.
