RENEWABLE ENERGIES

This sector is also a reference Almería. The province has a renewable electric power of 550.12 MW, where most wind (Source: Junta de Andalucía, 2012 data). Almeria is at the forefront of research in solar energy, since it has the Plataforma Solar de Almería (PSA), Research Centre under the Centre for Energy, Environment and Technology (CIEMAT) located in the desert of Tabernas solar technologies . This is one of the most important research centers worldwide solar thermal technology.

Almeria is also the headquarters of the Advanced Technology Centre for Renewable Energy ( CTAER ) specialized in this renewable energy. The University of Almeria also features the Center for Research in Solar Energy CIESOL , a joint center participated by the Plataforma Solar de Almería , of the Center for Energy, Environment and Technology ( CIEMAT) . The Center , launched in 2005 , collects extensive experience in joint investigation between the two agencies and has installed its own building in the technological area of the Campus of the University of Almería . As for wind power, in Almería there a total of 19 wind farms connected to the network facilities totaling the bulk of installed wind up with 511,29 megawatts ( Source : Andalusian Energy Agency ) power . The development of these renewable energies are even impacting the transformation of agriculture in greenhouses.
