This is the result of the spectacular development that the agriculture in Almeria has shown in the last decades. This model of industry has seen the growth of a number of auxiliary activities very necessary to the development of the agricultural sector in the province.
There has been a development of the industry which offers a wide range of products and services that contribute to the agricultural activity.  Originally created to give the necessary inputs for the production, handling, commercialization and specialized support, the variety of subsectors and enterprises that have emerged is very extensive, amongst others:

This is a highly developed industry sector and brings an added value to the Almeria food and agriculture economy.
The University of Almeria plays an important role in this sector, with the research and development that is carried out, and the activity generated by the Research Results Information Office (OTRI), which is the Entity for the transfer of the University´s knowledge. This department is responsible to act as a meeting point between the scientific knowledge resulted from the research undertaken by university groups and the technological needs arising in the production sectors.  
There is also a need to highlight the activity developed by the TECNOVA Foundation (Technological Centre for the Auxiliary Agricultural Industry), that counts with 126 enterprises registered, and is the reference point for the technological services provision for the Fruit and Vegetable production, the post harvest and the Packing.
Also, Cajamar Foundation, (is part of the Cajamar Caja Rural, the first rural Spanish Savings Bank and the first Spanish credit cooperative) promotes and organizes amongst others, initiatives that contribute to: the research in the agricultural and food industry, the innovation in applied technology, the analysis and studies for the production reality and the transfer of scientific and technical knowledge.
